2015 Events


At our monthly general meeting on January 8th Catherine Schein will present on the following FAME Topic: Plagues of the 21st century.

We will also be finalizing the nominations for leadership board members.


On February 12th our general body meeting will focus on a Programs Panel. NCF AWIS Leadership will be discussing what is going on in AWIS this year and how to get involved.

We will discuss our Shadowing Program, Volunteer/Outreach Program, Lean In Circle, and social events.

On March 12th our general body meeting will be a networking social at Blue Gill Restuarant.  We are celebrating our change to Chapter Status! Thank you to all of our local and national AWIS members.


No general body meeting in April.
AWIS members are providing science outreach activities throughout our community.

We are participating in after-school Science Clubs at Williams and Caring and sharing elementary schools.
On April 18th we participate in an outreach event at the Cade Museum facilitating hands-on science activities for Girl Scouts.

We also help host the Earth Day Luncheon in honor of Marjorie Carr along with the Cultural Arts Coalition, Sierra Club, Florida Defenders of the Environment, and Alachua Audubon Society.
The keynote Speake, Peggy McDonald, Author of “Marjorie Harris Carr: Defender of Florida’s environment” enlightens us on Marjorie's pioneering life as a scientist and environmental activist.


AWIS will be present at the Celebration of Biotechnology in Progress Park.

We also are facilitating a science outreach event for girls at the Porters Community Center on May 16th. 


We resume our general body meeting on Thursday June 11th at the CIED Center with an invited talk from Tami Mandell on Biotility and Florida's high School Biotechnology Program.


AWIS presents Highlights from the 2015 National Summit on Innovation and Entrepreneurship: A Roadmap for Inclusion.


In our general body meeting on Monday August 10th, Kiera Simmonds is our featured speaker and will speak on "Moving from Potential to Performance."


September's meeting is a networking event: Reverse glass painting and conversation.


In our October meeting we will hear about urban gardening from a local business women. Tower Gardens - the aeroponic vertical gardening system.
